IMPORTANT FOR DAILY SYSTEM OPERATION!

THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST OUTLINES THE PROCEDURE FOR SEWER PUMP REPAIRS, OWNERS PLEASE READ!

KITCHEN & LAUNDRY

  • NO cooking grease (e.g. bacon) should be put down the kitchen drain.
  • NO eggshells.
  • Please use LIQUID dish-washing soap in dishwasher.  DO NOT use granular products.
  • Please use LIQUID laundry detergent.  DO NOT use granular products.

TOILET

  • DO NOT flush sanitary napkins, tampons, condoms, or paper towels.
  • DO NOT flush fiber materials such as cleaning rags, disposable or cloth diapers, toddlers' soiled underwear, baby wipes, washcloths, Swiffer dust cloths, etc.
  • ONLY HUMAN WASTE AND TOILET PAPER!

AVOID DAMAGE TO YOUR PUMP

The following items should not be placed into the system:

  • GLASS, METAL, GRAVEL, SAND, COFFEE GRINDS, SEAFOOD SHELLS, SOCKS, RAGS OR CLOTHS, PLASTIC SANITARY NAPKINS OR TAMPONS, DISPOSABLE DIAPERS, KITTY LITTER, EXPLOSIVES, FLAMMABLE MATERIALS, LUBRICATING OIL, GREASE, COOKING OIL, PAINT, STRONG CHEMICALS, GASOLINE OR DIESEL, or STORMWATER RUNOFF.

The items listed here are items that the Town of Culver DOES NOT ALLOW and your wastewater flows directly to their wastewater treatment plant. HAVE YOUR GUESTS/RENTERS FOLLOW THESE RULES OR YOU MAY END UP PAYING FOR A CLOGGED OR BROKEN PUMP.

SERVICE CALLS

ESCD has contracted with Thomas Excavating to handle all service calls. You will be billed directly by Thomas and the ESCD will be copied on all bills they send out to keep for our records.  You will be fully responsible for payment of your service bill directly to Thomas Excavating 

Thomas Excavating can be reached by calling the following:

  • Office: 574-250-8533, call this number if an after-hours emergency occurs and during regular office hours.

If no one gets back to you within 30 minutes, call:

Your calls will be handled as they are received.

SERVICE CALL PROCEDURE IS AS FOLLOWS: 

  • Thomas will come and pull your pump, inspect it, and let you know if it can be repaired.
  • Thomas will provide you with a rough estimate to repair and fix it on the spot if it determined that the repairs can be done.
  • If your pump cannot be repaired immediately, Thomas will put in a replacement pump (owned by ESCD).
  • Your pump will then be sent out to be repaired and there is a $200 fee for that service, which will be forgiven if it is found that the pump CAN be repaired.  Then you will be billed the full cost to repair it.  To be clear, if it cannot be repaired, you will then owe the $200 fee. 
  • If your pump cannot be repaired Thomas will order you a new pump and put it back in place, returning the District's spare pump to the District.
  • The Owner will be responsible for paying ALL charges including labor, materials, the pump repair cost OR the cost of a new pump, directly to Thomas Excavating.   

 

 

RENOVATIONS & CONSTRUCTION

If you need to shut down your system for a renovation project or a new build, please call 574-400-5450 at least two weeks prior to the construction start date.  You may also email us at ESCDistrict@gmail.com.  NO REFUNDS FOR USER FEES WILL BE ISSUED DURING CONSTRUCTION IF YOUR SYSTEM IS SHUT DOWN WITHOUT PREVIOUS NOTICE BEING GIVEN BY CALLING 574-400-5450.

ESCD has contracted with Indiana 811, a service used to ensure that no existing underground lines are disturbed by construction carried out within our service area.  Tell your contractor! Indiana 811 must be called before you dig!

Once your renovation or new build is completed, a walk-through inspection will be performed to satisfy State code as to number of bathrooms.  Call 574-400-5450 or email ESCDistrict@gmail.com to schedule.  This inspection must be done PRIOR to Thomas turning on your system.

REMINDER:  If you are moving an existing sewer lateral running on your property, THAT LINE MUST BE INSPECTED PRIOR TO RE-INSTALLATION BEFORE COVERING UP THE LATERAL. Call 574-400-5450.
